As a parent, you need to get away from time to time to regain some sanity. Last weekend I attended the Hearts at Home Conference in order to reconnect with God, my Sanity, and to help me be a better wife and mother when I got home. I didn’t really know what to expect when I signed up but I knew a few friends that went and really had a great time. The conference is for Christian Moms and there were over 5,000 women in attendance! The conference was held in Normal, IL so a friend and I went down Friday afternoon in order to be there for the Mom’s Night Out Friday and we spent the night to attend all day on Saturday.
The Mom’s Night Out featured Ken Davis as the speaker. If you haven’t heard him speak, you should! He’s very funny and very motivational.
Ken Davis is one of the country’s most sought after motivational and inspirational speakers. His mixture of side-splitting humor and his powerful insights on living fully alive have inspired audiences around the world.
Along with Ken, there was also motivational Christian music, skits, and inspirational stories shared by other women. It was a great start to the conference, it helped me to settle in and be ready for the next day.
At the Hearts at Home Conference, there are two main sessions and then you are able to pick your own workshops to attend. If you attend only Saturday, like I did, then you pick 4 workshops for the day. My choices were: Living and Laughing Together with Ken Davis, 31 Days to a Happier Husband with Arlene Pellicone, Leading and Connecting with Your Kids in a Wireless World a panel with Kathy Koch, Dr. Gary Chapman, and Arlene Pellicone, and Thriving as a Mom and Not Just Surviving with Ruth Schwenk. The morning main session featured Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts. The evening main session featured Lysa TerKeurst, author of Am I Messing Up My Kids?: …and Other Questions Every Mom Asks. I’m going to do a quick recap of my sessions for you.

The theme of the conference this year was Unleash Your Superpower. The bottom line is that there ARE NO SUPERMOMS! We all have our own “superpower” or thing that we excel in. God gave YOU to your children because you are the exact right mom that they need. Stop comparing yourself to “Pinterest Moms” and “Facebook Moms” where their lives seem perfect! Dr. Gary Chapman was the featured speaker and he talked about The Five Love Languages (which we will talk about later on on this site) and how important it is to find out the love language that speaks to you, your spouse, AND your kids. It’s so important to your marriage to know what makes the other person happy! With your kids, it’s not only important to fill up their heart with their love language, but also sprinkle in all of the rest of the languages as well so that they learn to accept the way others give love. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Discover your love language.
Since it would make this post SUPER long, I’m going to break this up into a series so you can get a little more information on each of the topics. Do you ever take time away as a wife and mom to help motivate and relax you? I’d love to hear about it.
